First Compassion Care Center, LLC was founded from a deeply personal journey rooted in compassion, resilience, and purpose.

Founder and CEO Zakiyyah Barfield’s passion for caring for others was shaped by the experience of caring for her son, who courageously battled a rare genetic disease known as Spinocerebellar Ataxia. Throughout his illness, she witnessed firsthand the emotional, physical, and healthcare challenges families face while caring for medically fragile loved ones. Experiencing that journey as a mother gave her a deep understanding of what truly compassionate care should look like, because no one understands the importance of genuine compassion, dignity, and comfort more than a mother caring for her child through suffering.

Following her son’s passing, Zakiyyah dedicated her life and career to healthcare, determined to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and families facing illness, recovery, disability, and health disparities.​ At FCCC, our mission is to provide compassionate, high-quality in-home nursing services that promote dignity, independence, safety, and peace of mind for every patient and family we serve.
